“Transitioning from where they were to a better future – both horse and human” Hope 4 Horses is a nonprofit public benefit corporation organized for public, educational and charitable purposes to rescue, rehabilitate and re-train horses, to educate the public with regard to the proper care and humane treatment of horses in handling them on the ground and under saddle.
Our Story
In the verdant heartland of Galt, California, a spark of compassion ignited the inception of Hope For Horses in 2013. Founded by the visionary Anita Markiewicz, this noble endeavor emerged from a profound recognition of the urgent need to provide sanctuary for Pregnant Mare Urine (PMU) mares and foals, as well as Thoroughbreds retiring from the racetracks and breeding facilities, as well as Thoroughbreds in need of rehabilitation after injury. As the years unfolded, Hope For Horses evolved and flourished, guided by the indomitable spirit of its founder, until the mantle of leadership gracefully transitioned to the capable hands of Grace Purdum, who assumed the role of President with unwavering dedication.

From its humble origins, Hope For Horses has burgeoned into a bastion of hope, a renowned Thoroughbred Aftercare Facility that casts its benevolent gaze across the sun-drenched landscapes of California. With each passing year, the organization's resolve to extend its compassionate embrace to more equine souls burns ever brighter, fueled by a steadfast commitment to their welfare.

With a steadfast dedication to their mission, Hope For Horses has transcended geographical boundaries, establishing a Coast-to-Coast presence with facilities nestled in the bucolic landscapes of both California and Virginia.
